Spirituality is, I suggest, quite simple to define: it's living out Jesus' radical reworking of the Old Testament (Deuteronomy 6.4ff)  "Shema"... Hear, O Israel....you shall love the Lord your God etc. Jesus welded it on to.. "and you shall love your neighbour as yourself" (Leviticus 19.18. (In Matthew 22.34  and Mark 12.28. But  Luke, interestingly, puts this expansion of the Shema into the mouth of a Lawyer who goes on to try and justify himself by asking "and who is my neighbour?" Jesus replies with the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10.25ff) 

If we are serious about this double demand we will discover that this is really a single demand. Loving God and loving neighbour are inseperable. Then we are enagaged in spirituality.

It may be easy to define. Living it for real might prove a but more tricky.

It may be suprising to some but  spirituality also requires an understanding of orthodox Christian doctrine.... But more of that on another page. The point to make here that there's no room for "anything goes "- it really doesn't.
