Centring Prayer ( I've retained the U.S. spelling) is a form of contemplative prayer developed by Fr Thomas Keating in the 1960s. He developed the work of Contemplative Outreach, a worldwide organisation set up simply to encourage the contemplative practive of centring prayer. Cynthia Bourgeault and Fr Richard Rohr OFM also teach this method. In fact its roots go back to the author of the 14th century mystical writing The Cloud of Unknowing.
